Nail Surgery: Permanent Ingrown Toenail Solution

Published On: July 21, 2021

Are you constantly battling painful, infected ingrown toenails? Nail surgery might be a perfect option for you. This minor procedure can permanently soothe your pain.

Now don’t let the word “surgery” scare you off. The procedure is straightforward:

  • After a bit of freezing, our Chiropodists will remove the offending side of your nail, leaving a small, temporary gap where they apply a chemical to ensure that the nail’s ingrowing part does not grow back.
  • Following the surgery, discomfort, if any, can usually be treated with over-the-counter pain medicine.
  • Four to six weeks later, the gap along the side will be closing, and the nail will continue to grow as usual, without the pain of an ingrown.

If you would like to see a video of the procedure, Richard Werkman performed the procedure for a timelapse video which is posted to our YouTube channel. (Warning: Video contains graphic content)

If the word “surgery” is still scaring you, we offer a more conservative route. Every one to two months, you can visit our Chiropodists to clean up the callus built up from the nail ingrowing. They will also trim the toenails at the visit to give them their best chance to grow properly.

Book an assessment today with one of our Chiropodists to treat your ingrown toenails!
