Painful Ingrown Toenails?

Published On: February 3, 2016

Is there anything worse than the pain caused by an ingrown toenail?

ingrown toenail symptomsWe don’t think so. Shooting pain caused by pressure placed on the surrounding nerves, reminds you with every step you take, that your toe is not happy or healthy!

Ingrown toenails develop when the edge of the toenail is driven into the toe by shoes (or boots) that are too tight. Ingrown toenails occur most frequently alongside the big toe.  The nail cuts into the side of the toe, creating a shooting pain as it puts pressure on the nerves. Ingrown toenails may also be caused by injury, fungal infection, psoriasis, heredity, or poor foot structure. Here is what an ingrown toenail looks like at first (left) and then as the condition progresses (right).
